ST. LOUIS – It’s been 12 years since David Freese earned his place in St. Louis Cardinals lore, playing hero twice in an epic comeback that paved the way to the Cardinals’ most recent World Series title.
The Rangers became the first team to lose in the World Series in consecutive years since the Atlanta Braves in 1991 and 1992 and the first American League team to do so since the New York Yankees in 1963 and 1964. The Cardinals meanwhile, became the first wild card team to win the World Series since the Boston Red Sox won the 2004 World Series (coincidentally, against the Cardinals).
